2026-04-15 16:03:00
- internal team meetings and 1x1
- a bit of mailing list posting on the openssl 4 mess
- [asked folks to test](https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2359799#c29) the fix for the gnome-initial-setup blocker
- [investigated](https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=514841#c20) and [fixed](invent.kde.org/plasma/plasma-setup/-/merge_requests/98) the [plasma-setup wifi blocker](https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2455469) (and [another bug](https://invent.kde.org/plasma/plasma-setup/-/merge_requests/100) along the way), tried to pull in [Neal's proposed fix](https://invent.kde.org/plasma/plasma-setup/-/merge_requests/99) for the [dark mode launcher icon FE](), tested the fixes (on hardware as you need wifi for the page to show up), the dark mode one didn't work, pulled it back out and tested again, put the [build](https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=2979848) in the [big Plasma update](https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2026-fe3d8d4767)
- herded blockers/FEs and [requested a release candidate](https://forge.fedoraproject.org/releng/tickets/issues/13303#issuecomment-615916)
- came up with [yet a third approach](https://forge.fedoraproject.org/quality/rmdepcheck/issues/23#issuecomment-615965) for rmdepcheck xml parser thing

2026-04-17 17:12:00
- herded blockers, requested info on a couple
- did some manual validation testing: non-English installs on webUI that aren't automated yet, VirtualBox and VMware installs on Windows
- [fixed wiki reporting](https://forge.fedoraproject.org/quality/fedora_openqa/pulls/134) for non-English webUI tests
- [ran go/no-go meeting](https://meetbot-raw.fedoraproject.org/meeting_matrix_fedoraproject-org/2026-04-16/f44-final-go-no-go-meeting.2026-04-16-18.00.html), it was a long one, we decided no-go
- finally finished and merged the [big rmdepcheck metadata fix (version 3)](https://forge.fedoraproject.org/quality/rmdepcheck/pulls/26)
- sent related [pipeline PR](https://github.com/fedora-ci/rmdepcheck-pipeline/pull/14) and openQA test [quick fix](https://forge.fedoraproject.org/quality/os-autoinst-distri-fedora/commit/fb055d8e16a6ce737dbe0083a6875aa5916250ab)
- tweaked notifications test [bootloader behavior](https://forge.fedoraproject.org/quality/os-autoinst-distri-fedora/pulls/521) to try and reduce flakes
- [reported](https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2026-491b1f39ef#comment-4619409) a kernel update failing podman tests

2026-04-20 17:52:00
- herded f44 blockers and FEs, bit worried about a whole new dnf version to fix a couple of FEs, but decided it's worth a try. [requested new RC](https://forge.fedoraproject.org/releng/tickets/issues/13303#issuecomment-616616)
- reported a few typical openqa test failures (mostly dep issues), see [this ticket](https://forge.fedoraproject.org/quality/paperwork/issues/35) for more details
- re-reviewed and merged lukas' [screen recording test PR](https://forge.fedoraproject.org/quality/os-autoinst-distri-fedora/pulls/505)
- [re-reviewed](https://forge.fedoraproject.org/quality/os-autoinst-distri-fedora/pulls/517#issuecomment-616668) lukas' gnome-initial-setup test PR
- rebased [my pungi koji task reporting enhancement PR](https://pagure.io/pungi/pull-request/1900) on all the other changes we came up with
- Double checked that update notification is working in KDE since it's failing again in openQA, it does still seem to work tested manually
- Tested [proposed fix](https://invent.kde.org/plasma/plasma-setup/-/merge_requests/101) for one of the plasma-setup keyboard layout blockers, it didn't work, discussed with author, they fixed it, tested again, it did work, did an [official update](https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2026-15e5625973)
- [Requested](https://forge.fedoraproject.org/releng/tickets/issues/13303#issuecomment-616760) another candidate
- remember all that faffing with XML parsers for rmdepcheck I've been wasting my time on all week? well I finally did what I should've done a week ago and [revamped it to do the 'repository modification' with dnf excludepkgs options instead](https://forge.fedoraproject.org/quality/rmdepcheck/pulls/32). it's much better; less code, more robust, fastest version yet

- _(Meta note: This is the report for the whole week. I was asked to sprint with the RISC-V team, so I won't be posting daily here, but a weekly update to keep myself semi-sane.)_
- \[F44 RISC-V rebuild\] Real momentum only picked up recently. We had to workaround a GCC issue. Blockers: some community builders are not available, so we're with a reduced builder capacity. We're do about 300 builds / day as of now. But it's not as bad as it sounds, as there's a lot of 'noarch' packages which don't need rebuild, so they can be directly imported.
- [Hardware] Tried out SpacemiT 'K3' server hardware; I got 24h remote access (with some limitiations). [Uploaded](https://kashyapc.fedorapeople.org/risc-v/boards/outputs/k3-spacemit-eval/) some basic data. Did an initial benchmark of building 'binutils': K3 is ~6.5x faster at compiling 'binutils' compared to our current build horse P550. (NB: P550 is on Fedora, while the K3 is on some FrankenLinux, so the default compiler flags from the host differ.)
- [Hardware] Started a thread with a few folks on a backup plan to improve reliability of builder hardware. Roughly: while server-grade hardware is in flight, get a few P550s and make them available "somewhere" so that they can be easily hooked to RISC-V Koji.
- [RISC-V SIG meeting]: [Discussed](https://meetbot.fedoraproject.org/meeting_matrix_fedoraproject-org/2026-04-14/riscv-sig.2026-04-14-16.00.log.html) rebuild status, omini kernels and more. Filed a [ticket](https://forge.fedoraproject.org/riscv/planning/issues/15) to setup Pungi to produce Fedora RISC-V "composes".
- [AI] Studied the basics of a new open-weights model, [Gemma-4](https://blog.google/innovation-and-ai/technology/developers-tools/gemma-4/) and discussed it with Jiri Dluhos. Read an [evaluation of the Mythos](https://www.aisi.gov.uk/blog/our-evaluation-of-claude-mythos-previews-cyber-capabilities) initiative, and discussed its impact with a couple of CLE folks.
- [Misc] Brought up a note about [too much automated email](https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/devel@lists.fedoraproject.org/thread/PGA6DOARDFOFVBPIHMP7BIDDK4OGEFPV/) on 'fedora-devel'.
- [Misc] A partly frustrating (internal) thread about the brain-split of 'fedora-devel' list vs Discourse forum
- [Conferences] Final review of RISC-V EU Summit proposals in a 3-hour long meeting.
- Red Hat-internal Meetings: 8hrs
